Boating is a time for you to leave your worries at the dock and enjoy the open water with friends and family. A nice sunny day on the hook, a local sandbar or tubing can create some real great memories. These same days on the water can turn into someone's worst nightmare in the blink of an eye.

What could go wrong? A fast moving power boat with a spinning propeller, no brakes, wind and a moving current, not to mention hundreds of other people in the same situation. It’s amazing we don’t see more accidents than we do every year.

Every year 2 of the top 5 leading causes of boating accidents are Operator Inattention and Operator Inexperience ( Official USCG Boating Statistics). The last thing you want to become is a statistic.

Your first step is getting your boaters safety card:

Every person born on or after January 1st 1988 must take and pass an approved boater safety course to legally operate a vessel with 10 or more horsepower in the state of Florida.

With technology these days getting a boating safety card is easier than ever.

There are a number of approved online courses but the Boat U.S. Foundation offers this service for free. All you need is an internet connected device and a few hours of your time.
